| I often compose greeting cards to Ann - for birthdays, holidays, Mothers' Day, and anniversaries. I composed this unrhymed sonnet for a card on our 34th anniversary December 20, 2004. Note: One of my three answers to the question "How did you meet?" was the truth; in another version, I told people that Ann was selling apples at MacArthur Park (Memorial) and I bought one. It is probably also worth noting that Ann had never wanted to travel widely or to live far from her roots in Hampton Roads. Flying worried her, and sea travel wasn't too comfortable for her either. So she married a Navy pilot who wanted to see the world. Oh well ... |

| These 4 & 30 Years ... | ||||||||
| These four and thirty years you've stood with me - behind, before, beside - supported me; you've followed me across the globe, led me to secret places neither of us knew, and learned with me - despite my aromor does not shine and isn't even steel, despite my horse was only dappled gray and not so large as you had thought the day we met and shared MacArthur's apple with my steed. Though you had no desire to travel far abroad, you yet embraced my Wanderlust - you flew, you sailed, you spoke in foreign tongues, embraced adventures you had never dreamed, loved me for who I am, as I love you. |
